The 2026 womens lacrosse season has started strong with an undefeated season and a deep playoff run looking increasingly more likely.
The Bengals have dominated every team they have played so far, with an average of 19 goals per game, allowing an average of only 5.3 goals per game. This dominance has led them to a 11-0 record on the season and a #5 ranking in the state, the best start any FVHS womens lacrosse team has had since the 2021 season, where the team went 17-1.
It’s not like they have faced soft teams either, beating #7 Green Hope, #14 Athens Drive and #16 Willow Spring. On top of these notable wins, they won them with wide margins— an 11 goal win against Willow, a nine goal win against Green Hope and a seven goal win against Athens Drive.
The Athens Drive game was the closest win for the Bengals, taking place April 7. In this one, the Bengals attack was led by three names, junior Lunna Murphy with five goals on five shots as well as three assists, senior Sydney Remmer with three goals and six assists and senior Lucy Redder with an insane eight goals in one game.
Having the most ground balls in a game is an important piece of lacrosse, as it allows your offence to keep attacking and takes away opportunities from your opponents. In the Athens Drive game, underclassmen led the ground ball game, with sophomore Jamie Shaw picking up five and freshman Madelyn Cappola securing four.
The Bengals now turn their eyes toward the second half of the season, with conference games dominating the schedule. The womens lacrosse team hasn’t won their conference since 2022, so if they could bring home the trophy this year, it would be a clear validation of this standout season.
While every game is determined by what happens on the field, the Bengals are most likely to win the rest of their games this season, as they have already beaten all of their conference opponents by wide margins, and Union Pines isn’t exactly a shining beacon of womens lacrosse, like our fellow Bengals.
The hardest game they have for the rest of the year comes in their last game against Croatan, who are 6-2 so far this season. Croatan’s schedule is generally tough, similar to the Bengals’s out of conference schedule.
The next game for the FVHS womens lacrosse team is this Tuesday, April 15, at 5:00 p.m. It’s a home game against Hunt, so make sure you come out and support our Bengals.
