Womens lacrosse’s last season game, April 29, was nothing short of electrifying. The final score was 19-0 against Clayton. This was enough to put the Bengals as the #2 seed in the East division of the state playoffs bracket.
Freshman Madelyn Cappola scored three goals with the help of junior Peyton Schroeder with her two assists. Cappola, who plays midfield, was named player of the game by MaxPreps. Cappola also has a 100% shot percentage this season.
“The biggest factor in us going undefeated would be hard practices. We take everything seriously. Do it 100%,” said Cappola. “My favorite game this past season would be when they beat Union Pines because it took a lot of hard work.”
Team leaders like junior Lunna Murphy, who averages 5.5 goals per game; senior Sydney Remmer, who averages five assists per game; and senior Hannah Tarpley, whose goals against average is 4.1, all make an extreme impact on the team.
Remmer said, “My teammates push me a lot in all of our plays this year because they revolve around me. I have to be the one helping set up plays, and that’s something I take pride in.”
Remmer proves that lacrosse isn’t about one star player on the field, but a team effort. It’s about trust, communication, and every Bengal doing something to make a play happen.
The Bengals defense held Clayton scoreless for all four quarters. By halftime, the momentum kept going as the Bengals hit double digits.
In the end, The Bengals finished their regular season hitting a new milestone of being undefeated and ended their last game on an incredible note.
“I try to keep the team from being selfish by putting each player against each other. Iron sharpens iron,” said coach Michael Bagnasco. “We have lots of new players who haven’t played lacrosse before, so the best advice I tell them when facing adversity is to fail fast and learn from it.”
For underclassmen like Cappola, the season represents just the beginning, but for others like Remmer, it marks the end of the last school season. With a strong returning core and experienced leadership, the Bengals are sure to continue their dominance next year. If the 2026 season proved anything, it’s that dedication and discipline are the driving forces behind the Bengals’ success.
The playoffs start on Friday, May 15, as the Bengals play against Cary High School at 7 p.m. at home. Come and support your Bengals as they take on the Imps.
