Hockey fans have been watching some exciting games during the 2026 NHL playoffs as teammates compete for the Stanley Cup. The playoffs started on April 18, 2026, with sixteen teams hoping to win the championship. So far, there have been overtime games like the Toronto Maple Leafs versus Tampa Bay Lightning in game three and the Edmonton Oilers versus Dallas Stars game two, which was decided in overtime.

There have also been big comebacks and a lot of surprising results. According to ESPN, “The 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs are here, and they’re weird because of how unpredictable this year’s playoffs have been.”

One of the biggest stories has been their new team, the Vegas Golden Knights, that made it to the Stanley Cup final after beating the Colorado Avalanche. After the series, according to Coach John Tortorella, “Now the real stuff starts” as the team prepared for the championship round.

Other teams have also made the playoffs exciting. The Buffalo Sabres won a playoff series for the first time in nineteen years, which was a huge accomplishment for the team. The Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes have also played really well throughout the postseason. Every series has been competitive, and fans have stayed excited because the games have been so close.

The NHL playoffs are known for being difficult because teams have to win four best-of-seven series to become champions. Many players have also stood out because of their scoring defense and teamwork. Fans have filled arenas and supported their teams throughout every round.

The next playoff game is game five between the Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens on Friday, May 29, at 8:00 p.m. in Carolina. Carolina currently leads the series 3-1, and the winner will face the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Finals. As the season comes to an end, hockey fans are excited to see which team will lift the Stanley Cup and become champions this year
