The Fuquay Varina High School women’s lacrosse team has had an amazing season this year, winning every game and proving themselves as one of the top teams in the playoffs. The Bengals continued their strong season with a huge 19-4 win against New Bern in the third round of the playoffs during a home game on Tuesday night. With teamwork, hard work, and strong leadership, the team has continued to dominate opponents throughout the season.
Many players say lacrosse is both physically and mentally challenging, but the team’s determination has helped them succeed.
According to junior Lunna Murphy, the hardest part of lacrosse is “clicking with the team, finding that bond, and being able to work well with everybody and be coachable.” Players have worked hard all season to build trust with each other, both on and off the field
The team has also created a strong and positive environment this year.
According to junior Hope Dunbar, “We’re definitely skilled. We have a lot of good people, and it’s really fun and energetic.”
Murphy said that the team definitely has a different bond compared to last season.
“The winning streak and the vibes are high,” said Murphy
This season has included many exciting moments and important wins for the Bengals. According to Murphy, one of the biggest moments this year was beating rivals and making a strong comeback during the third round of playoffs, after starting slow and early in the game.
Their recent playoff victory showed how strong the team can be when everyone works together. Players and coaches are now focused on the next challenge as Fuquay-Varina prepares to host the Topsail Pirates in the fourth round of the playoffs on Friday, May 22, at 6:00 p.m.
