The hit musical, “Hamilton,” is now playing at DPAC from May 20 to June 14, 2026. People from all over are planning to attend the showings of the musical. “Hamilton” premiered January 20, 2015. Later that year, on August 6, it officially opened on Broadway. Since then, the musical has been performed over 3,800 times.

The creator of the musical is Lin-Manuel Miranda, an American playwright and actor. He wrote and composed the musical over the course of seven years. It took him a full year to write “Alexander Hamilton,” the opening song in the musical.

He started to work on the project in 2009 after reading Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton’s story of rising from an orphan to an important figure in the founding of the nation captured the attention of Miranda. Miranda took his story and turned it into a musical that incorporated all sorts of genres in music such as hip-hop, jazz, R&B and others.

April 16, 2016, “Hamilton” won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama after judges found the reenvisioned story of the founding father to be a landmark American musical. The musical has won many other awards since, such as 11 Tony Awards and a Grammy Award.

“Hamilton” brought out Miranda’s creativity and made him work harder in order to make this musical better than any other project he had worked on before.

“Hamilton’s story was forcing me to reach deeper, personally and reach wider musically than any other project I’d worked on,” said Miranda during an interview with the Library of Congress.

For some fans, the musical is a great escape for them, something that they can focus on. For some, it’s the music that inspires them, and for others, it’s the underlying message that they get from the musical.

“I think some songs [from “Hamilton”] can speak to people and help them through hard times,” said sophomore Lana Briscoe.

Not only do “Hamilton” songs help people through hard times, they bring back the interests of people.

“[‘Hamilton’] brought back my interest in set design and stage work with props,” said sophomore Sara Stokes.

The musical dates for May 20 to June 14 are mostly sold out except for dates near the last week of showing. The next location for the cast after Durham, North Carolina, is in Nashville, Tennessee.

If you want to buy tickets, go to the Ticketmaster website and buy tickets before they are all gone. Tickets are available on the DPAC website as well.
