Mens lacrosse has a three game win streak heading into game one of the playoffs on May 15 at Ashley High School in Wilmington, NC. Faceoff is set for 6 p.m. Coming off a hot game against Hunt High School winning 20-2, the team is hoping to take that momentum to the beach to take on Ashley in the first round of the playoffs.
Mens lacrosse, led by captains senior Ty Halle and junior Jaxten Sola, ended the season at 6-11 after starting the season off rocky losing the first five games and facing adversity. They are now headed to round one of the playoffs when nobody thought they would.
Junior Benjamin Cole said, “If we play the best that we can, we can win anything…I believe that we can win states.”
This shows the drive and the want to bring a state title back to FVHS.
Freshman Wyatt Harpell has the same perspective of the playoffs as the rest of his team saying, “I feel confident in our ability to win playoffs.”
Their team bond is unbreakable, like in the last game against Hunt. The team tried to share the goals and attempted to let some of the freshmen and backups play and try to score goals, according to Harpell.
Starting goalie senior Lucas Prestipino played as an attack and scored two goals. Junior Jaxten Sola, who usually plays defense, scored an impressive three goals for a hat trick.
Headed into Friday it will be a tough and hard fought game with the opponent Ashley High School being 12-6. The Bengals know what it’s like to be the underdogs and also that having a 6-11 record does not mean anything.
The Bengals will plan to take a two hour bus ride which can either make or break a team by losing focus or being fully locked in. Also, playing in a different environment like the beach could also make a team lose focus, but hopefully not for the Bengals.
The winning team will either play Sanderson High School or New Bern High School on Tuesday, May 19.
