Was letting Gypsy Rose out of prison a mistake? Many people around the world have been discussing Gypsy Roses’ actions over the past few weeks. With old home videos of her resurfacing, it’s been hard for viewers to determine whether she’s truly earned the ‘evil’ title she’s been given or if she’s just been manipulated.
Gypsy Rose was raised by her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, who told doctors that Gypsy Rose had mental illnesses. Dee Dee claimed that Gypsy Rose couldn’t walk, couldn’t eat and had various other problems. Because of this, Gypsy Rose went through many procedures and surgeries to fix her ‘medical issues.’ Dee Dee also kept Gypsy Rose isolated from the world, therefore she lacked a traditional education and necessary social skills. Later, doctors and police found out Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP), a rare form of abuse where a caregiver deliberately causes injury to a person under their care.
In 2015, Gypsy Rose planned out the murder of her mother with her online boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn. They met online in 2012 on a Christian dating website and maintained their relationship for three years before they met in person at a “Cinderella” movie premiere. During the relationship, Godejohn, created a dark alter ego named ‘Victor.’ Gypsy Rose was easily influenced by Godejohn and took after his alter egos, eventually creating multiple of her own.
Their conversations quickly escalated from typical romance to explicit messages and role playing. They met for a second time in 2015 when Godejohn visited the Blanchard home, and it was then that they followed through with the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard.
It was well known after Gypsy Rose and Godejohn got caught that the two had poor mental health. When Godejohn was tested, it was shown that he had ASD (autism spectrum disorder) and possibly bipolar disorder. On the other hand, it was proven that Gypsy Rose had no mental illness, which was surprising to some.
Gypsy Rose was paroled Dec. 28, 2023, after serving about 85% of her 10 year sentence. People all around the world were excited and filled with happiness for Gypsy Rose. Before this, multiple documentaries and shows were released about Gypsy Rose so fans could follow along with her story. Some people felt lots of empathy towards Gypsy Rose, feeling that she was abused and manipulated her whole life. Others felt hatred and disgust towards her, feeling that she was an evil child who murdered her own mother.
People have had so many different opinions on Gypsy Rose throughout the years, but now there are even more.
The ‘Gypstein Files’ has become a big title across social media and it makes reference to the ‘Epstein Files.’ The files contain home videos of Gypsy Rose, filmed back when Gypsy Rose had first begun her relationship with Godejohn, as they would send videos to each other every day talking about rules and their future.
These videos have been recently released to the public, and people have been reposting them on social media. What makes these videos so interesting is the way Gypsy Rose acted in them. Everybody knew her as a sweet innocent girl who was mentally and physically abused her whole life, until she had enough. These videos do not follow the same story. In some of the videos Gypsy Rose wore lingerie and corsets, which makes everybody wonder where she got those from without her mom knowing. She also acted very seductive in her videos by the way she was dancing and talking.
As of today, people can’t form a solid opinion on Gypsy Rose because of the lack of information and understanding surrounding her case. Some people believe she should go back to jail because she’s not as innocent as we all thought, while others believe she was just abused and manipulated so long that she doesn’t know any better.
Gypsy Rose has been through a lot during her life, experiencing both love and hate from the public eye, no matter what the internet brings out of her, she always stays the same person and gets through it, although the “Gypstein Files” have made things a lot more confusing and hard.
Of course no fans or watchers will know Gypsy Rose’s full story, but the most we can do is take all of the evidence and videos we’ve been giving and use them to formulate our own opinion.
