Although November has the holiday Thanksgiving, people don’t decorate for Thanksgiving with the same vigor they do for Halloween and Christmas. As soon as it’s November, people start decorating for Christmas and start playing Christmas music.
There’s a popular joke around the end of October and the beginning of November about how certain popular Christmas songs and their music artists start to ‘defrost’ around this time. Although the most memorable and popular artist that defrosts is Mariah Carey with her song “All I Want for Christmas is You,” she’s not the only one that participates in this tradition, as there are other popular music artists who defrost around this time as well.
Frank Sinatra, a 1940’s American singer, was and still is popular for his jazz and swing music style. He is popular among many generations like Gen Z and Millennials. Some of his most popular songs are “My Way,” “Somethin’ Stupid” and “Fly Me to the Moon.” Although these are some of most popular songs, he does have an album of Christmas songs, from his “Have Yourself a Merry Christmas” to “A Jolly Christmas.” It is a surprise not many people realize a lot of classic Christmas songs that are played everywhere are from Frank Sinatra.
A newer music artist is Laufey, an Icelandic-Chinese singer who debuted in 2020. She is popular for her music because she puts emotions and feelings into them. Laufey’s first song was “Street by Street” and one of her most famous songs is “From the Start,” but just because she has only been in the music industry for five years now does not mean she isn’t able to defrost with her own Christmas songs. Laufey’s Christmas album is called “A Very Laufey Holiday,” and a few songs it includes is “Santa Baby,” “Christmas Dreaming” and “Love to Keep Me Warm,” which she collaborated with fellow music artist Dodie to make.
Lastly, one of the most unexpected music artists who defrosted around this time is Jschlatt. That’s right, streamer and Youtuber Jschlatt– whose real name is Jonathan Schlatter– is also a music artist. He made an album named “A Very 1999 Christmas,” which was made as a half joke. The album is made up of covers of Frank Sinatra’s Christmas songs. Songs that are in the album are “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!,” “White Christmas” and “A Christmas Song.” Despite the album being covers of Frank Sinatra’s Christmas songs, it is quite popular.
People like to joke about how Jschlatt and all these other talented music artists defrost like an ice cube around the beginning of November to begin the Christmas season.
