“Stranger Things” has come out with four seasons over the past decade. These seasons, despite having lots of information, still left viewers overflowing with curiosity. These curiosities lead to some theories like ‘Byler,’ which is a fanmade rumor that pairs Will Byers and Mike Wheeler. Another one is that Barbara Holland will come back from the dead. And lastly, Will dying for good are all theories made by the fans over the years. The most interesting thing about these theories is that nobody can confirm nor deny them. For those who aren’t fully up to date, beware of spoilers. Here are some “Stranger Things” theories that might make you think deeper.
As mentioned above, many viewers and diehard fans of the show have searched deep in the episodes for hints that ‘Byler’ is canon and that the characters will end up together. When you rewatch episodes in the earlier seasons of the series, we can piece together that Will is homosexual. If you didn’t know that, you can look up clips to find where they hint at it to find even Will’s father Lonnie calling him a slur used against LGBTQ people.
With that being said, this still doesn’t prove whether Mike and Will could end up together or not. One way the fans have put this together is that even though Mike and Eleven are dating, they have been paying close attention to body language and words Mike uses around her. They noticed he seems to not like her that much and isn’t comfortable around her. Watchers realized in season four when Will gave Mike his painting he’d been working on, there was a lot of chemistry between the two. This whole theory is a stretch, as producers haven’t revealed clues directly enough, but who knows, we might see it in season five.
Moving onto a more scary theory: Will has been dead since season one. In the first five minutes of season five, we can see that Will was weak and was being taken advantage of by Vecna. Earlier in season 1, we see Will cough up Dart (a baby demogorgon). This connects with the first five minutes because it could be what Vecna put into him. Now how does this tie into Will being dead? Well, most fans have speculated that Will died in the Upside-Down before Vecna cursed him and that when he came back to Hawkins, he was being controlled by Vecna, which allowed him to bring the baby demogorgons, like Dart, into Hawkins. Now we know this is a very broad theory, but if you dive back into the previous seasons, some parts add up.
One last theory that can also be seen as a theme of the show is sacrifices. “Stranger Things” is known for being heroic and adventurous. Unfortunately, this can be a bad thing for some of our favorite characters that we have gotten attached to throughout the show. Fans have been questioning if Steve, Eleven or Dustin will sacrifice themselves in order to save their friends and Hawkins. Most people don’t think this will happen because they are the main characters, but others believe that that’s how the show will leave a lasting mark. As of now, there’s no way to look into the show to prove this theory, so this is based on pure speculation.
There is just a little over two weeks until the last season of “Stranger Things” comes out. More theories made by the fans will be piling up until the release. Although most of these might not turn out to be true, it’s still fun to mess around and see what you can piece together.
