There are many different types of clothing styles in the world; goth, scene and victorian are just a few examples. However, these are more like umbrella terms, as they have many substyles that fall under them, the gyaru style for example. Gyaru is one of the styles with the most substyles.
The alt style, or alternative fashion, is a type of clothing style that has many substyles. Alt style is a category of styles that come from popular trends. Alt is a mixture of goth, punk, grunge and emo styles, the more popular types of clothing styles.
So, how does one dress in the alt style? It’s really easy. The alt style has a lot of unsaturated colors and blacks as well as random bits of saturated colors. For the base of the outfit, use either skirts or baggy jeans, preferably grey jeans and black skirts, but plaid skirts can work as well. Black leggings or socks with some sort of black can be worn with the outfit. And black graphic designed t-shirts or noodle strap shirts. Noodle strap shirts can be either black or white and are often used in alternative fashion. Fingerless or fishnet gloves are optional to wear. If you are going to use them, it’s preferred to not use vibrant nor solid colors. Large jackets or sweaters are also optional, but remember no vibrant colors, dull colors are much more preferred as it won’t ruin the outfit. Lastly you want to wear black boots or shoes.
Now for the accessories. Black belts are used a lot; they can be plain, have rhinestones or spikes. Necklaces and chokers can both be stacked together or used separately; necklaces are usually silver and chokers black. If you use rings, bracelets or any other jewelry, make sure they are also silver, black or not very vibrant. Black, white or grey striped leg warmers can be paired with skirts during cold weather. Bags and purses should also be black. You can use pins as well for jackets and bags. It doesn’t matter what types of pins you use.
In the end it doesn’t matter what you wear, clothing is just a way to express oneself. Wear what makes you comfortable or what you want, just make sure it is appropriate and not offensive to those around you.
