On Oct. 29 1994, the famous song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was released by the legendary Mariah Carey. Little did people know that this was going to be the start of a yearly meme.
In 2019, Mariah Carey made a video on November first saying “it’s time” to announce Christmas. She posted it the day right after Halloween, so many viewers found it funny that Christmas was announced so early. Some people then took the video and added her famous song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” at the end of the video to transition her words into the song. The whole point of that was to remix her meme into her iconic song, which worked.
The next year she posted another video on TikTok. This time she put more effort into it with decorations and pajamas. She had a backdrop with small Christmas trees, red lights and snow falling on her. At this point, people could tell that this was going to become a yearly tradition.
When she posted the video this year, it had a very high budget production. At the beginning of the video, there’s an elf who helps create a plot for the video. The setting and clothes were very detailed. Another big detail in the video was Sephora. It’s obvious that the makeup brand was being promoted in her video. The elves were carrying Sephora bags and the bags were sitting in open areas. Mariah Carey even dropped Sephora bags down peoples chimneys as presents.
Some watchers claim that this meme is just a money grab for Mariah Carey and how she stays relevant. They think that the video had too much detail and effort in it for just a meme. On the other hand, others think that she outdid herself and loved how much effort was put into it. Most people will be waiting til Nov. 1, 2026 to see if she will outdo herself again.
