The Fuquay-Varina chorale will hold concerts May 1 at 7:00 p.m. and May 2 at 3:00 p.m. at the Fuquay-Varina Arts Center on E. Vance Street. Tickets cost $10 and can be bought here. They are also available through the Arts Center. This performance is called “Singer’s Choice” and is a collection of songs hand-picked by the members of the group.
Junior Aly Dykstra is in FVHS’s concert choir. She enjoys knowing there are places outside of school to sing in a choir.
“[Local choir groups] help bring people together and make them happy, giving people an escape from everyday life and work,” said Dykstra.
Fuquay-Varina chorale has been sharing music for seven years. They show off local talent by bringing in different types of music. They are a nonauditioned group who meet once a week to work on music. Currently, they meet Mondays from 7:15 p.m to 9:00 p.m. They encourage experienced and inexperienced singers ages 16 and up to join. The director and organizer is Margaret “Maggie” Cook.
“[The singers] get a choice in what they sing and that makes them more passionate about the song and more happy to sing, making it overall sound much better,” said Dykstra.
The group has sung for the town’s 9/11 memorial service. Famously, they have sung at Carnegie Hall and the opening of the Special Olympics State Games. This truly shows how connected to Fuquay they are.
Dykstra said, “I would love the opportunity to sing when I’m an adult and continue it. I’ve been singing since kindergarten, and it would feel wrong to not continue.”
Fuquay-Varina chorale is excited for their performance and to show off their work. They invite you to celebrate spring with them.
