The Fuquay Varina High School baseball team is ready for another exciting year, with strong players, hard work at practice and support from the community. The Bengals are looking forward to making a big impact on the field. Each game brings new challenges, but the team is focused on playing hard, working together and representing their school with pride.
The baseball team has been playing together season after season, helping each other improve.
“We’ve been together for all these years… It’s kind of one big family. Everybody works together and does everything together in one group,” said senior Corbin Peacock.
The baseball team beat Willow Spring with a close call of 4-3 both times on March 3 and 5. Junior Parker Garret started the game and pitched four innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out 10. Junior Mack Barfield closed the game by retiring three straight batters, which included a pair of strikeouts. On offense, junior Aidan Morgan had two RBI, and Peacock also drove in a run.
In their second game against the Holly Springs baseball team, junior Michael McLean got the start and pitched three strong innings, allowing just one hit, no earned runs, and a follow-up of striking out seven batters. Then senior Bryce Gullie came out and continued the strong pitching, striking out eight hitters, but allowing two runs to be scored after a home run from Willow Spring’s Gio Taffala.
Later in the game, senior Latham Stone entered the game with the Bengals holding a one-run lead. He stayed calm on the mound and sealed the win with a two-strikeout save during the seventh inning
Offensively, senior Davis Ottaly helped spark the Bengals by hitting a home run in the sixth inning to give the team the lead. Senior Dylan Quintana and McLean also contributed to the plate, each driving in runs with RBI singles to help Fuquay-Varina keep the pressure on and secure the victory. With the win, the team extends its streak to three in a row, building momentum for challenging games against Apex (12-0) and Clayton (12-5).
As they prepare for their next match-up with an away game with Clayton on Friday the 13th, we are hoping to see another big win and watch the team fight for their fourth straight victory. Be sure to come out and support the team as they look to keep the streak alive.
