Last Thursday, March 5, FVHS challenged Willow Spring in five sports. FVHS won the “Battle of the bell” in two of these sports. The night was highlighted with finals scores like 15-4, and 4-3 coming from womens lacrosse and baseball.
For womens lacrosse, it was a tough match, the score resulting in 15-4 making it a Bengal win. Junior Luna Murphy and senior Sydney Remmer led the team in points with a total of seven in the first half.
Bengals baseball was a close game, with Willow scoring three runs and FVHS scoring four, securing the bell. Senior Davis Ottaly, scored an outstanding home run against Willow contributing to the score. The scores of both games ended up being 4-3. Senior Bryce Gullie struck out eight hitters in the second game, and junior Parker Garrett struck out 10 in the first game.
For mens lacrosse, they fought hard but Willow Spring managed to take the win with the score being 13-5. The Bengals were able to score three goals in the last quarter, but Willow managed to pull off a win with senior Aydric Spivey (Willow Spring) scoring seven goals out of the 13 made.
Varsity softball had a low scoring game, with Willow only scoring one run the entire game, resulting in a win for them. Although FVHS did not leave with the bell, junior Paige Alexander struck out seven batters, only letting one batter score a run, even though they let five on base.
Additionally, earlier in the week womens soccer triumphed. The Bengals won against Willow with a score of 3-0. Leaders like freshman Maddie Pulling and junior Violet Terasse each scored one goal leading the team to a win.
Golf also had an extremely close game, with FVHS losing only by 1 stroke against Willow with the score being 155-154. Senior Justin Im led the team with a score of 46.
When all games came to an end, FVHS’s womens lacrosse and baseball showed incredible drive through the games creating a new chapter in the Battle of the Bell rivalry. Other sports like softball and golf were extremely close, so hopefully they can secure a win in their next battles.
