The conflict between the United States and Iran has been a long battle of suffering. The main reason for this resurging battle is mainly due to Trump’s presidential connection with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to ease the United States’ way into fighting against their common enemy. Along with this, Netanyahu voiced concern about Iran’s technology, stating that it is an “existential threat” (NDTV). Because of this we supported and assisted major efforts of violence in Iranian territory and ended up killing their standing leader, Ali Khamenei, through Israeli airstrike attacks.
Senior Aditya Sharma said, “War is never entirely positive. The positive outcomes don’t go long term. Eventually what will be remembered are the negative outcomes. The positive outcomes, like the quick gains in the stock market and quick boosts in the economy, are short lived, but the lives lost remain forever.”
Even online the potential dangers of Iranian threat looms.
“Last night, I was doomscrolling and saw a video of the Iran military, and they were showcasing a bunch of drones they were about to launch. Obviously that puts out a sort of intimidation to seek retribution, but knowing the amount of military and advancements, those attacks won’t go too far. The recent strikes, the drone videos as I mentioned, those are things that our military can control. Those kinds of attacks will have little to no harm,” said Sharma.
As for whether the resistance against Iran was valid despite tensions in Ukraine and a lack of effort on the part of the United States, Sharma said, “The reason for conflict is different. Russia does have nuclear capabilities, but they have already made that clear. The U.S. has always been in support of Ukraine. However, Russia has never attacked U.S. military bases compared to Iran who consistently proposed the death of America. Judging by the extremism that sprouts from the Middle East, it was a justified level of resistance. Better be safe than sorry.”
This ongoing battle has helped showcase the United States’ security and solidify their firepower for their nation and helps further the reliability the country has when it comes to keeping their people safe. As far as the students are concerned about this conflict, there is little doubt in the United States’ protection nor the dangers of Iran’s threatening presence. Even if such were to make contact, it seems understood that we, as large as our country is, will bounce back from it.
