There is a lot of excitement at FVHS as the men’s lacrosse team gets ready for its first game. The Bengals head to Willow Spring tonight for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff, and they are walking onto the field with a brand-new look.
This year, the team has an entirely new coaching staff. While the coaches are new, the leaders on the field are familiar faces. Junior captain Jaxten Sola and senior captain Ty Halle are the veterans in charge of keeping the team on track.
For Sola and Halle, the goal for this season is simple. They want to play good lacrosse and win at least 50% of their games. Sola mentioned that the team is really happy with the roster this year.
“I am excited for the new players who came and have a bigger role,” Sola said.
The players have been working hard to learn the new coaching style and get used to the new plays. Halle is optimistic that the change in leadership will lead to a long season.
“Hopefully, we can make it to the playoffs with this new coaching staff,” said Halle.
Playing for the school is a huge factor for both captains this year. For Sola he said it means everything to him to be able to wear a Fuquay jersey and represent the Bengals.
Halle is looking to change his style of play to help the team succeed. He wants to be more aggressive on offense this season to put more pressure on the defense and create more scoring chances.
The Bengals have a doubleheader right out of the gate. The games are against Pinecrest High School and Willow Spring High School. With Sola and Halle leading the way, the Bengals are ready to start this new era, and the captains are confident they have the right team to make it far.
The next game is Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. at Willow Spring. Join us in supporting the team.
