FVHS varsity softball kicked off their season on Wednesday against Holly Springs. Team chemistry appears to be one of the Bengals’ strengths this year.
Sara Little, a sophomore playing on varsity said, “It seems like we are all really close, and we have a good relationship. I want our team to go far in the playoffs because last year we went to the second round, and this year I would like to go further.”
With this, the Bengal softball team seems excited for the upcoming 2026 season.
Paige Alexander, who is one of the team’s pitchers, said, “I think our team wants a state title, but mainly for me, I would like to get more wins this season.”
Alexander has also set goals for this season.
“Some things we can improve on as a whole would be more base running. We’re not bad at it, I just think we can always improve,” said Alexander
Last year, the Bengals went 12-8 overall and were fourth in conference. The Bengals only scored two runs in their last game against the Hawks, resulting in the score 11-2. This gives the team hope for redemption as they strive to set a tone for the upcoming season. The matchup against Holly Springs was competitive, as both teams showed strong performance in recent seasons. Opening games set the tone for the year, making this game extremely important for the Bengals.
The Bengals scored 18 runs against the Hawks. The Hawks only scored one run, making this game a redemption for the Bengals in comparison to last year. This is an extreme accomplishment and hopefully the season will be full of wins just like this one.
The Bengals match up against the Crusaders on Friday Feb. 27 at home at 6:00 p.m. Be there to cheer on your Bengals in hopes of another win.
