Last Tuesday, Kaitlyn Hatt, a sophomore at FVHS, made school history by qualifying for states. Hatt is the first female wrestler in FVHS history to accomplish this. Specifically, she qualified by getting second at the East regionals, making it not only an extreme honor for her but a milestone for female athletes of FVHS.
Hatt competes in the 185 pound weight class and has built an impressive record throughout her high school career. Her overall school record currently stands at 53-25. This season alone she holds a 30-12 record, proving her drive and determination on the mat. Hatt is currently ranked 16th overall in the state, an achievement that reflects the level of competition Hatt faces and overcomes.
Hatt shared her excitement about qualifying for states
“I’m really proud of myself. I’m really happy and I hope that next year a lot more girls get to make it too,” she said, highlighting not only Hatt’s personal success but her desire to see other female wrestlers grow. Hatt had a clear piece of advice for other wrestlers.
“Just work really hard and not give up,” said Hatt.
This mindset shows one of the biggest reasons why Hatt is in this position today. Her dedication and willingness to constantly keep going helped her reach this level.
“I think the hardest thing I had to overcome this season would be my mentality when it gets hard. But you just have to keep going,” said Hatt.
Overall, the FVHS girls team, which consists of seven wrestlers, finished with a record of 9-7 in the 2025-2026 season. Hatt has set a standard and opened doors for future wrestlers at FVHS. Her achievements prove that barriers can be broken and history can be made with hard work, confidence and determination.
