FVHS students are preparing for the second semester as new classes start Jan. 27. Many students are excited about not having to take some final exams due to the new guidelines. If students make a 79.5 or above as a final grade in a class and have no more than ten absences then students may be exempt from teacher-made exams. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will also have to have less than ten tardies. Students with state made exams shill have to take the exam.
Jan. 16 is the first period exam, due to Monday being Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The second period exam is Jan. 20, third period is Jan. 21 and fourth period is Jan. 22. If students miss an exam due to sickness there is a make-up exam day on Jan. 23.
Junior Audrey Ehresman says that she enjoys the new exam rules.
Ehresman said, “I like it because it encourages students to keep their grades up and show up to class on time. Plus, it gives students who work hard a break at the end of the semester.”
Since the exam rules have changed, some students who have above an B and less than ten absences are going to enjoy the days off. Students will be happy to sleep in or catch up on reading or applying for scholarships. Some might go on a short vacation due to the possibility of having Jan. 16 to Jan. 26 off.
Ehresman only has to take a math EOC, so she plans to do other things on the exempt exam days.
“I’m going to get my drivers license and then chill for a few days and probably study for my math exam,” Ehresman said.
Students are ready for a change in schedule and to have different classes, if they don’t have a year long class.
Additionally it means that students can meet new people and learn new things. Even if students aren’t looking forward to future classes they are excited to get the first semester over with.
Ehresman said, “Next semester I’ve got animation class, choir and no math, so I’d say I’m going to like it better than this semester.”
