Black Friday and Cyber Monday are widely celebrated here. Essentially, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving; this year it was on Nov. 28. This also marks the start of the holiday season, with many brands and retailers offering discounts both in-store and online. Whereas, Cyber Monday follows on the Monday after Thanksgiving. This year it was on Dec. 1. However, this day focuses more on online sales and home appliances.
FVHS students also had a good time shopping for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Sophomore Dhanya Shankar said, “My Black Friday shopping was really fun. Getting the items I wanted at a lower price makes the whole shopping trip worthwhile.”
Black Friday grew out of chaotic after Thanksgiving shopping in the 1980s, while Cyber Monday was deliberately invented in 2005 to capture the rise of online retail. Today, both are intertwined, with many deals lasting across the entire weekend.
2025’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday was the biggest season ever online. Some of the trends that are changing the way we browse, buy and find bargains. Black Friday has had significant discounts in various categories. Major retailers like Amazon, Target and Walmart offered discounts on electronics, home goods, apparel and more, with deals reaching up to 75 percent off.
Shankar said, “I’m very satisfied with what I purchased. I got a nice pair of Uggs, and I feel good about the value I received.”
Cyber Monday 2025 also had some of the best deals at shops like Amazon, Target and Walmart. Shoppers also found deals on items such as activewear, mattresses and gadgets with discounts reaching up to 60 percent off at various retailers.
Freshman Yoshita Rakesh said, “I liked Black Friday. I went shopping; I liked the offers as well. I got some clothes and jewelry which were a nice deal.”
This year had great opportunities for online shoppers to secure some of the best deals before the holiday season even began.
