With senior year coming to an end for many FVHS students, it is time to decide what their next steps will be. Several of our Bengals participated in signing day Nov. 12 to officially declare their commitment to various schools.
They were surrounded by their family, friends, teammates and coaches to celebrate marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one.
“It feels really good and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, so I’m very proud of it,” said senior Dylan Quintana, who is committed to Fayetteville Technical Community College to pursue baseball.
The ceremony took place in the media center, where the athletes posed for photos representing their future schools by wearing shirts and hats, leading up to their official signing of the commitment forms.
Seniors Davis Ottaly, Latham Stone and Jackson Semanisin are all playing baseball next year. Ottaly is attending Fayetteville Technical Community College, Stone is attending Catawba Valley Community College, and Semanisin is attending Ouachita Baptist University.
All three of these athletes have one thing in common, wanting to start in their freshman season.
“My goal is to get physically bigger in the weight room and to start on the team,” said Stone.
The shift from high school to college sports is a major change and can be very intimidating when deciding if you want to play sports in college or not, but it is important to have confidence in yourself if that is really what you want to do.
“As long as I keep working hard, I know it will become easier over time,” said senior Cassius Grimsley.
Grimsley is committed to the University of North Carolina Wilmington for baseball.
Whether it be academic or athletic, finding the perfect school for you takes lots of time and consideration. The decision can feel overwhelming, but it’s important to pick somewhere that feels like home to you.
“Focus more on going where you’re wanted and focus less on division or level of college,” said senior Reagan Lindholm.
“It’s important to be loved every day, wherever you’re going, you have to find the right fit.”
Lindholm is committed to the University of Mount Olive for basketball.
Signing day represents the end of a very stressful process and finding an environment that will help them grow on and off the field. Their choices reflect not only where they will be competing in the upcoming years, but where they believe they can be the best version of themselves and continuously thrive.
