The FVHS flag football team had a memorable season by advancing to the state playoffs, wrapping up months of preparation and hard work. Players, coaches and supporters all recognize their success as a reflection of their dedication.
The Bengals faced the Green Hope Falcons on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Although the Bengals lost 12-0, they still presented an amazing defense. The loss leaves them at 10-8 in the overall campaign.
Throughout the season, the team endured tough practices and intense games that tested their determination. Coaches stressed discipline and communication, which became key traits throughout the season. By the time the playoffs arrived, the players felt more bonded than ever.
“It felt really good to make the playoffs and states this season, it was a big achievement for us and one of our main goals,” said sophomore Maverick Grimsley.
Following those accomplishments, many players believe that the growth they showed as a team was equally important as the wins.
Team captain, senior Nyla Robinson-Partridge said, “I’m most proud of my team’s development from August to now.
“We’ve gotten better as a team and as people. I’m glad that the girls younger than me are ready to continue the sport and grow to be better people.”
Her reflection emphasized the importance of leadership in the team. Older athletes took pride in helping younger players, fostering an environment of encouragement and trust. The united commitment to improvement provided a solid foundation for the team’s future.
As the season progressed, many saw personal growth in addition to athletic improvement. Learning from mistakes, handling pressure and maintaining mental health became important lessons. These experiences influenced how the players handled the game and their everyday lives.
Robinson-Partridge also said, “This season helped me grow as a teammate and as a person by allowing me to realize that making mistakes is okay, and I don’t always have to be perfect for everyone. I can just be myself.”
Multiple players including Robinson-Partridge, and seniors Emma Peacock and Reagan Ziglar won all-conference awards. Robinson-Partridge also won Defensive Player of the Year. Coach Bobby Fulghum won Conference Co-Coach of the Year.
With the playoffs marking a memorable finish, the team concluded the season with pride in their success. Their journey showcased resilience, bonding and maturity. Players and coaches hope to build on this for future seasons.
