Starbucks recent release of the now viral “Bearista” cups seems to be causing many issues around local Starbucks. Starbucks released their holiday merchandise Nov. 6, which included the “Bearista” cup, a 20-ounce cold cup shaped like a bear with a green beanie. Customers are currently upset over the fact that the baristas at Starbucks were able to buy their cups beforehand, leaving some stores with as little as two bear cups in stock.
“In my personal opinion, I understand how cute that these cups appear to others, but it shouldn’t get that serious to the point where people are starting fights over the cups,” said freshman Zoey Harrison.
The fights for these cups became so bad Starbucks had to issue an official apology to the public. The apology stated how the launch of the bear holiday cup had exceeded their biggest expectations. They also stated how they understood the excitement the “Bearista” cup caused and apologized for much of the disappointment caused.
“I personally think that it was shocking to see an upscale in overconsumption,” said freshman Margret Flores.
Across social media videos began to spread of people waking up at three or four in the morning to try and get their hands on one of these cups. Reports have surfaced of people arriving at Starbucks less than half an hour after opening time and still not being able to get a “Bearista” cup.
Now for the people who were able to get a cup, some are flocking to eBay to try and sell these cups for more than five times the price. The cups are being marked from $150 to almost $1,000 online.
Until the hype for this cup calms down, there is other Starbucks merchandise made for the holiday season. Look out for Starbucks tumblers, mugs and even ornaments for holiday cheer.
