FCCLA’s movie night is returning to FVHS for its second year after a good community turnout last year. The event will be held this Friday, Nov. 14 and will be in the courtyard at 6:00 p.m.
Last year, FCCLA advisors chose “Inside Out 2” as their movie. This year the members were entrusted to vote on the movie theme themselves. After careful deliberation, “The Parent Trap” was chosen as the movie that will be played.
FCCLA advisor Julia McClannon said, “FCCLA is and will always be a student-led organization nationally. The point is for the students to make the decisions and build leadership skills through membership. Things like choice make a big difference in student participation and engagement.”
Their goal of the event is to raise money for their chapter and for the community to have access to an affordable, fun, family-friendly event. They spent several months planning for this event, doing things like planning social media posts, making flyers, and event promotion.
“We start planning for the entire year in May/June of the previous year, and then we try to finalize all of our dates in
August with officers before school starts. We then spend about a month before each event gearing up for it. We also ask for volunteers at our meetings and through Remind and manage those through a Signup Genius. For most of our events, we set up an hour beforehand and tear down/clean up for about 30-40 minutes afterward. Many hands make light work,” said McClannon.
FCCLA has meetings every other Wednesday.
Although organizing the event requires a lot of effort, there are many parts to look forward to. There will be individual snacks available to purchase like chips, popcorn bags, candy, chocolate and other things. There will also be Fat Cat Homemade Ice Cream at the event, who has time and time again supported FCCLA and our school. There will also be water, Gatorade, juice and soda.
”I’m excited to see the turnout for the event. Every time we have a repeat event, we get more community member participation. It’s so fun to see the positive impact our students have on their immediate community,” said McClannon.
In the case of poor weather, the movie night will be moved into the auxiliary gym like last year. Despite this, people in the community are super excited about this event.
Sophomore Nicole He said, “I think the idea of a movie night is smart because I feel like it connects the community, it brings everyone together, and it’s also something fun for families to do. I think it’s a good movie choice because I feel like it’s such a classic and it’s honestly really funny too. I’m most excited for the snacks that there are to buy because I know there is a variety.”
FCCLA’s movie night will hopefully continue to be another annual event to look forward to during the fall season. With the community support and student involvement, this year’s screening is anticipated to be an enjoyable evening for friends and family under the stars.
