Being nominated for prom court is a great way to cap your high school career. Many consider becoming the prom king or queen an honor, which is no small achievement.

This year’s FVHS prom court nominees were announced on Wednesday, March 20. The following seniors are in contention for prom king and queen: Shae Bass, Pamela Schneider, Madison Bandarra, Abigail Adams, Dylan Finch, Devin Perry, Ralph Philips, and Mwenda Murungi.

“I did not expect to be nominated. I knew people knew me, but it was still very surprising,” said Perry. “I usually just stay to myself.”

Perry already has an idea of what he’d like to pursue as a career.

“I would like to join the military,” explained Perry. “I’d like to join the Air Force or Army. I want to get an MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) in welding.”

Perry wasn’t the only one surprised by his nomination; Adams was equally shocked to see her name on the ballot.

“I really didn’t want to be nominated, but my sister and her friends nominated me anyway,” Adams said. “It’d be cool to represent the rest of the senior class.”

Adams also has big career plans.

“I plan to go to Campbell University for chemical pharmaceutical engineering,” noted Adams.

Adams isn’t alone in her excitement to represent FVHS on prom court.

“It means a lot to me,” said Schneider. “It’s nice to see that my friends really care about putting me on the prom court.”

Schneider hopes to get accepted into the University of Michigan, where she will major in music technology.

Ralph Philips expressed how much he appreciated being nominated for prom court

“It feels truly an honor; I did not vote for myself which I was really proud of. It is really nice to be thought of in that manner by my peers,” said Philips. “Being prom king would be awesome; everyone knows I am historically good for getting jiggy with it.”

Philips wants to pursue a future career in sports and wants to venture into the world of coaching, along with a career in acting.

Philips has already been accepted to the University of Alabama and is waiting to hear from UNC-Chapel Hill. He plans to major in communications and get a minor in musical theater.

Prom king and queen will be crowned at Prom on April 27. You can vote for prom king and queen at your designated ticket pick-up date.
