The annual Fuquay-Varina Christmas Parade took place on Sunday, Dec 3rd, and many students took part in the festivities this year.

Many families in the community look forward to seeing the parade, but it’s safe to say the dancers are the most excited.

“This will be my fifth year doing the parade. Even though it’s been really cold when we’ve done it, it’s fun to dance for the town and represent my studio.” said junior Ava Mitchell, who attends Center Stage Dance.

The parade is a focal point of the season for many dance studios in the area, and they put a lot of effort into their routines.

“I have been doing the parades since I was in petite classes. It’s one of Main Street’s favorite things to do. We look forward to it every year,” said junior Megan Roseman, who attends Main Street Dance and is also a member of the FVHS Dance Team.

Since the parade is a moving event, the routines have to be able to travel well down the streets.

“The choreography is easier, but is way different than competition pieces. The parade routines have to move forward a lot so they are a bit different than performing on stage,” said Mitchell.

The routines take a lot of effort and planning, but the dancers always look forward to performing for the town.

“My favorite part about being in the parades is when the people are cheering you on. I love when I hear them talk about how our performance was and especially when they say that our routine was their favorite part. It makes me so happy,” said Roseman
