Social media plays a major role in our society. While there are different benefits it may offer, it’s important for parents to understand the supervision that’s needed on media activities.

Safety is one of the top concerns of social media. Advertisements, apps, and websites often ask for certain information which can include location and financial information, and it risks being shared. Parents should keep their younger teens away from such websites to prevent any risks of personal information being shared without their knowledge.

Kids can easily be exposed to things that aren’t age appropriate just a couple clicks away. Monitoring the presence of social media can protect them from certain content, keeping it age-appropriate.

When children come to the age of interacting with others on their socials, it’s often the case that many kids misuse their platform and engage in bullying activities. Cyberbullying, involving harassment and bullying behind screens, can cause serious harm. As a parent, supervising your child can prevent these situations.

According to Pew Research Center, “59% of U.S. teens have been bullied or harassed online, and a similar share says it’s a major problem for people their age.”

There’s never harm in being cautious and aware of the dangers the media can lead to. Managing your childs screentime has many more advantages, all of which is for the protection of yourself and your child.
