Fuquay-Varina High School’s wrestling team honored its senior class during senior night, finishing the evening with a 1-1 record in duals. The Bengals dominated Smithfield Selma, allowing only six team points, before falling to Apex High School in a competitive matchup.
Seniors played a key role in the win over Smithfield Selma, with Jayden Manchego, Lucas Prestipino, and Jamie Jordan each going 2-0 on the night. Their performances highlighted the depth and leadership of the senior class.
Senior Dominic Austin was one of several seniors recognized during the ceremony. He reflected on the discipline required through his wrestling career.
“Just showing up to practice no matter how you feel,” said Austin. “It means a lot, especially for freshmen and sophomores to look up to us,” said Austin.
Senior Jamie Jordan, who was undefeated on the night, said conditioning was the biggest challenge he faced during high school wrestling.
“The hardest part of wrestling was probably conditioning, especially during my first year,” said Jordan.
Senior Lucas Prestipino, who also finished with two wins, is proud of everything he has accomplished throughout his years of wrestling.
“It made me realize that all the effort I have been putting into wrestling is finally paying off,” Prestipino said.
His advice for all underclassmen and future wrestlers is to keep trying and never give up.
Senior Talei Williamson enjoyed being able to celebrate his night with his loved ones.
“It felt great being there with my family,” said Williamson.
Williamson believes that you have to stay consistent and have discipline while being on the mat and facing opponents. He leaves that as his advice to the younger wrestlers at FVHS.
The program recognized seniors Dominic Austin, Rhianna Carrington, Jamie Jordan, Pablo Lopez-Morales, Jayden Manchego, Max Martinez, Lucas Prestipino, Wyatt Sellers, Brady Thomas and Talei Williamson for their dedication to the FVHS wrestling team.
