After winning the first round of playoffs against the Jack Britt Buccaneers, the FVHS varsity volleyball team approached the second round of playoffs with enthusiasm, focus and determination. The Lady Bengals were ready to put forth their best effort in the postseason after a regular season filled with growth and collaboration.

The Bengals have heavily improved their performance as the season has progressed, learning from both wins and losses. They were a team to keep an eye on as they headed into the playoffs because of their ability to adjust and remain calm while under pressure.

Senior Braelynn Wagner said, “We prepared for the first playoff game before going into it. We were confident that we could win and execute what we needed to.”

Each serve, set and spike demonstrated their hard work. The team focused on enhancing their core skills and strengthening aspects that could give them an edge over their tough competitors.

“We made adjustments by fixing our serve-receive, and since we were able to get a good pass, we could get a good hit,” said senior Izzy Silochan.

As they progressed, the Bengals prepared to face the current state champions, the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders, known for their rigor and composure. The team stayed concentrated despite the challenges they faced.

Senior Kenadi Johnson said, “We knew that Cardinal Gibbons were the reigning state champions, but that didn’t change the way we needed to play. We went into the game with the same mindset we always do.”

Although our Bengals lost to the Crusaders, their perseverance and determination reflect their commitment to play with passion and represent FVHS no matter the outcome.

“I expected the game to definitely be tough, but I knew my team would push through,” said senior Adreana Stuart.

With their drive, the FVHS girls’ varsity volleyball team stepped onto the court not only to compete, but to prove their hard work could carry them beyond expectations.
