The current shops in Fuquay-Varina have left students wanting more to do in their free time. The majority of the downtown area is filled with restaurants, which leaves little room for stores that sell materials for hobbies or recreational activities.

“I wish we had more shops that had art supplies or a skate park,” said freshman Paige Maxfield.

Others hope for more urbanized stores in the future.

“I’d like to see more clothing stores and other shops you might see in a mall,” said senior Evelyn Parker.

Some students think Fuquay should try to model itself after its neighboring town Holly Springs. Others, however, think it should stay relatively the same.

“We have both towns, which are good for different reasons, but Fuquay shouldn’t turn into Holly Springs,” said Maxfield.

Parker agrees, saying “Holly Springs is very large and has grown too quickly. I love the small town feel that Fuquay has.”

On the other hand, the parks in Fuquay are well-liked by students and are a popular place to go.

“I like walking downtown or going to one of the parks. I go to them all the time,” said Maxfield.

Some students feel there are too many restaurants in the downtown area. “There are so many Aviators. Each place sells the same food and drinks,” said Maxfield.

However, news of a bowling alley being built has excited students as well.

“I’m personally excited for the whole development to be put in. Plus, it’ll be nice to have one closer than Buffalo Lanes,” said Parker.

Students are hopeful that in the coming years Fuquay will construct more shopping centers or recreational sports centers that are good for enjoyment and relaxation.
