FVHS Varsity football defeated Jack Britt High School 17-9 as a big upset on Friday, Nov 3. 2023. After having an under-500 season, the Bengals were seeded 25th against a tough Jack Britt team. 

Coming into this game, the Bengals had not scored many first-half points this season, but they would score ten throughout the first 30 minutes. Freshman running back Jackson Sattelberg catapulted this team by scoring his first playoff touchdown as a true freshman.

“It felt really good. It was awesome celebrating with the whole team. It was a great experience,” said Sattelberg.

The Bengals would hold Jack Britt High School to a 6-point second half, which would catapult the Bengals to a big win in the first round of the 4A playoffs.

“The kids worked very hard to get the job done this week,” said Bengals head coach Jeb Hall. 

After defeating a 9th seed, Jack Britt, the Bengals will face off against Ashley High School in a tough away game against the 24th seed. 

“We need to lighten up since it is later in the season, and we know we have to get better each day to get ready for the game on Friday,” stated Hall.

This is a game the Bengals could definitely win, but they will have to stop the run against junior running back Jaelan Brewington. Brewington averages 7.1 yards a carry with an average of 122.3 all-purpose yards a game. Stopping the run will be the key to winning this game for the Bengals. 

“We are ready and prepared to win this game,” said Sattelberg. 

The Bengals will battle at Ashley High School in Wilmington on Nov 10. 2023 in the second round of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs.
