There’s a big factor in whether people are ticklish, but it might be a mental thing which is why a lot of people can’t tickle themselves. The Healthy stated, ¨In a 1990 study of 100 college students published in ¨Biological Psychology¨, preliminary findings suggested that people who are prone to smiling and laughing may be more likely to be ticklish.¨

A high percentage of people are ticklish to some type of degree, but there are some people who aren’t at all anywhere. Tickle responses vary greatly, with studies indicating high variability in sensitivity based on age, mood and who is tickling them.

¨Most people I know are ticklish, but I´m not. I don’t know why, but I think it might be a mental thing about being ticklish or it might be how your body is because when I get tickled it hurts, not like a laughing feeling,¨ said sophomore Yaritza Zeleya Perez.

Another factor of being ticklish is your age. Most of the time children are much more ticklish than adults. It’s because of their developing nervous system, but also kids might have negative effects from tickling in the future, Hand in Hand Parenting said.

¨But in my many years of listening to adults talk about the emotional challenges of their lives as children, tickling comes up again and again as an experience that has been hurtful. I’ve listened to a number of adults who can’t relax when others are in close proximity to them,” according to the website.

So, all of this shows that tickling can affect people, in negative or positive ways, and that a lot of people aren’t or are ticklish for a reason instead of just luck.
