It’s rather difficult trying to search for a job that will accept a high school student with little to no experience that also pays them enough to be fully satisfied. Also, it can be tough for students to be able to balance academics and work depending on the individual student. Academic performance is heavily impacted by the amount of time a student spends working which can cause a job to add a lot more pressure onto the workload they already had.
Junior Chloe Ellbee explained, “I believe that having a job in high school creates a work-life balance, so when high school students go to college or elsewhere, it’s easier to transition into having a part time job and also being able to focus on their studies.”
Many high school students nowadays tend to have a job, but they all differ on the minimum pay per hour they would be willing to receive. When surveying high school students in Fuquay-Varina, the average minimum amount of pay they were willing to accept an hour is $12.
The highest paying jobs for high school students are being a private tutor, a babysitter and retail jobs. Being a private tutor or babysitter can get you paid around $20 an hour or more, depending on the person paying you for your service. Retail jobs such as Target, Harbor Freight Tools, Macy’s and even Starbucks can pay more than $15 an hour.
Sophomore Olivia Valdez-Norton said, “I would like getting paid that much because I know a lot of jobs don’t pay that well, especially for teenagers since they don’t have much experience.”
If you are in search of a high paying job as a high school student, considering these different jobs may be beneficial and helpful if taken into consideration.
