Students have different opinions on remote learning

Recently, Fuquay-Varina was impacted by the weather and the unfortunate results from it. With the roads being icy and the snow continuously piling on them, our school as well as others in Wake County closed down. With the result of remote learning, students began signing onto their classes with assignments that had to be finished within the time period. As students did this, they may remember the days of Covid and how this feels so similar to those times.

Remote learning can provide a disadvantage or advantage depending on the individual. Usually, there is a low amount of motivation and focus which can be discouraging considering being at home may cause students to be lazy. Yet, looking at it from a different perspective, being at home can be a comfortable spot for students to do their work.

Junior Olamide Adesina said, “I enjoy remote learning because it lets me work at my own pace. I’m someone that is a high achiever, so I enjoy getting everything done ahead and going on with my day. In school everything is usually done at a slower pace.”

While this may be true, others have a different opinion and mindset towards remote learning.

Sophomore Lucy Finch said, “I like both because with remote learning, it gets done on our own time, and you can do it comfortably where you are at. But also I like it in person because of the socialization and the hands-on help you can get from teachers.”

Many other students would also agree with this statement because they can both have their positives and negatives when considering the situation and the type of student they are. Ultimately, whether remote learning is beneficial is up to the individual student.
