The Fuquay-Varina blood drive is coming up on Friday, May 1, 2026. It’s going to be on 1860 Cinema Dr, which is at Culvers in Fuquay-Varina. The event is being led by The Blood Connection organization.
FVHS is helping to support the event by promoting all over the school on little posters.
At the location, there’ll be a bus, which is where you would go to donate your blood. To donate your blood, you must be 16 or older and have your ID with you. You are also not allowed to have a cold, flu, sore throat, cold sore, stomach bug or any other infection.
The blood drive is to help people who need blood when they are sick or when they have a low supply of blood. Some other cases where people might need blood include emergency surgeries, chronic illnesses and a variety of treatments.
Some blood types are in lower supply than others, which makes the need for donors higher and more important.
Science teacher Jason Wolfe said, “When people donate, they help alleviate a shortage.”
When you donate your blood it goes through a process before it can be distributed. First it gets collected at the blood drive, then it is taken to a lab to be tested to check that it is safe to be transferred. Next, hospitals order the blood they need based on the patient they need it for. Then, the blood gets delivered to the hospital, where it is given to the patient in need.
People all over the world need blood every day, so these events help a lot with the need for blood. Without people donating blood, there would be a much lower supply than people need. Someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds according to the Red Cross.
Junior Aidan Maher said, “[The blood drive] is able to help a lot of people in need, especially in a local place.”
The blood drive in Fuquay-Varina is being held in order to help people that need blood for many different reasons. The school is promoting the event to encourage students and their families to donate to those in need.
