Members in HOSA are preparing for the upcoming state leadership conference, also known as HOSA States on March 25-27. This event will bring together high school students from across North Carolina who are interested in healthcare careers. For those attending, it is an important opportunity to compete and represent their school. It also allows students to challenge themselves and take part in a larger community of future health professionals.
Over the past few months, students have been working hard to get ready. They have been studying medical topics, practicing skills and reviewing everything. Some students will compete in knowledge-based tests, while others will participate in hands-on events such as CPR, first aid, and patient care. These events help students build real-world skills that are important in the healthcare field. Many of these skills are similar to what actually healthcare workers use, giving students a better understanding of what these careers involve.
“I’m really nervous, but I’m trying to stay focused and do my best,” said freshman Harshita Mani Vadaparthi.
In addition to competitions, HOSA States offers more opportunities. Students can attend workshops, listen to guest speakers and learn about different healthcare careers. These sessions allow students to hear from professionals and understand what working in the medical field really like. Students can also meet others who share similar interests, which can help them feel more connected and motivated.
Advisors often spend extra time helping students improve and stay organized. Making it to HOSA States is already a big achievement and reflects the effort students have put in over time.
“I’m trying to win and get at least third place,” said Harshita Mani Vadaparthi.
As the conference approaches and excitement continues to grow, students are looking forward to meeting others, competing and gaining new experiences. Many students are also excited about travelling, staying with their team and representing their school in a larger setting.
“I am excited to make new friends. This is my first state competition, so I am really excited to see how this goes,” said junior Joshita Mani Vadaparthi.
