Interact Club is hosting its Share The Love pet food drive which has been extended until the week before spring break. They are collecting donations of wet food, dry food and pet treats. Dry foods can be opened already as long as they can be sealed. All of the donations are going to shelters in Raleigh and Garner.
Senior and president of Interact Club, Haarissh Babu said, “We want to do [the drive] just to give back to the community. Especially now, or at least the winter months and even coming spring, a lot of pet shelters have an influx of animals. They need more resources. They need a lot of food and other items like treats. So we just want to help them out and be able to give back to them.”
So far, Interact Club has received many donations, so the drive was extended. Interact Club is hopeful to get more interest in caring for these animals. They found success when the pet food drive was done first in the winter of 2023, so they have kept the event up. This gives much relief to overflowing shelters.
“We want to help give back to [shelters] because they have an enormous responsibility to take care of so many animals,” said Babu.
Interact Club is sponsored by the Downtown Fuquay-Varina Rotary Club and are considered a younger Rotary International for high schoolers. They specialize in the motto “Service above self.” They work on community service through local, national and international efforts.
Babu said, “Growing up I didn’t really have any pets. I’d always go to my friend’s house to see that they have a dog. It’s always fun. [Since] I don’t actually own one, I want to try to help out other animals. Animals make my day because I love dogs and cats.”
Keep donating items so more pets in need can be kept safe. Donations can be brought to the front office or room 2803 up until spring break.
