The Department of Motor Vehicles in Fuquay-Varina has been struggling. The DMV has been understaffed for a while causing unpleasant wait times. Even though most DMVs have a long wait time because they are a public resource everyone needs, Fuquay has been extra long.

Fuquay’s DMV does have a website that states the wait time it could take for you depending on the time you walk in or plan on going. You can also make an appointment online that will secure you a spot and time. You may have to wait a little bit like most appointments, but it will be a shorter wait compared to just walking in. 

Even though the DMV has been struggling, it is still open. Its hours are from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. and isn’t open on weekends. 

The wait time is what is making people upset about the DMV. Some of the reviews online about the Fuquay-Varina DMV have said they had to wait four to six hours for processing. 

This directly affects Fuquay-Varina students because the DMV isn’t open on weekends and is only open until 5 p.m. on weekdays. This can make it so students aren’t able to get the proper material needed for driving without leaving school early or just missing a day of school. This can put a student behind in classes because of the struggle with the DMV wait time even with an appointment. 

“The workers at the DMV were kind of mean and seemed like they didn’t want to be at their job,” said art class student teacher Jasmine Hicks about her past experiences.

Fuquay-Varina’s DMV isn’t the only DMV struggling. A lot in the state of North Carolina are understaffed causing long wait times even with appointments. But the Fuquay Varina DMV, while struggling, will continue to operate and give the Fuquay community driving assistance.
