Gladwell Orthodontists of Wake Forest has collaborated with Youngsville Gun Club & Range to provide a very unique offer to patients. Selected customers are given the choice between a silver membership at Youngsville Gun Club & Range, or a free Glock 19, after purchasing an Invisalign from them.

This deal has had people very skeptical about the safety of the transaction. Customers were worried about, for example, giving a gun to someone potentially dangerous. 

“I think giving people guns just for going to the orthodontist is a dangerous trade, it could easily go wrong,” said sophomore Salma Tamayo.

Gladwell has that worry covered. When a customer is potentially going to get a gun, they do a full background check to ensure that this person is responsible and capable. 

“It’s a process. They have to come; they have to have a valid driver’s license. They have to be a legal citizen; they have to be 21 and older. We do a background check here on site. That has to come back approved. They have to fill out all the paperwork,” said Youngsville Gun Club and Range owner, Kurt Lieberman, according to WRAL. 

According to state law, background checks are the minimum practice for gun purchase in North Carolina. 

Even though this practice is in place, it has still caused suspicion and worry. Mostly because they feel as if more effort needs to be put in place, so they know the wrong person can’t access this deal. 

“They’re giving away things that are going to be lodged in a house somewhere, and will potentially create gun violence and gun death,” said the executive director of the NC Council of Churches, Jennifer Copeland, according to WRAL.

The creators of Invisalign, Align Technology, released a statement after the controversy they had gotten. 

“Align has been helping doctors transform smiles and change lives through healthy beautiful smiles using Invisalign aligners, and this promotion does not reflect our brand purpose,” they said.
