Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl 58

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58 with a final score of 25-22.

Three minutes into the first quarter 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey fumbled, giving possession to the Chiefs. The first quarter ended with no team scoring.

Early in the second quarter, 49ers kicker Jake Moody kicked a 55-yard field goal to put the first points on the board. With four minutes left in the second quarter, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy threw a backward pass to wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Jennings then threw the ball to McCaffrey and scored a 21-yard touchdown to make the score 10-0. With 21 seconds left in the half, Purdy finished with 255 passing yards and one touchdown, while Jennings finished with four receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker kicked a 28-yard field goal to make the score 10-3 going into halftime.

The halftime show was performed by Usher featuring Alica Keys, Lil Jon, and Ludacris. Usher is a Hip-Hop and R&B singer whose most popular song is “Yeah!” featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris.

Ten minutes into the third quarter, Butker made a 57-yard field goal, making the score 10-6. After that, with two and a half minutes remaining in the third quarter, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw a 16-yard touchdown to Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to give a three-point lead to the Chiefs.

Valdes-Scantling has had a poor season, including dropping a game-winning touchdown pass during week 11 while the Chiefs were trailing by four against the Philadelphia Eagles.

With the fourth quarter starting, Purdy threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jennings to give the 49ers the lead. With a little less than six minutes remaining, Butker made a 24-yard field goal to tie the game up.

In the final two minutes of the game, Moody made a 53-yard field goal to give the 49ers the lead. With less than two minutes remaining, the Chiefs drove down the field and kicker Harrison Bukter made a 29-yard field goal, which tied the game up with only three seconds left going into overtime.

Mahomes is famous for his 13-second drive in the 2021 AFC Divisional playoff game against the Buffalo Bills. Mahomes helped the Chiefs drive down the field to kick a field goal to tie the game up and lead it to overtime where they eventually won.

The 49ers won the coin toss in overtime and elected to receive the ball first. The 49ers marched down the field and set up a 27-yard field goal for Jake Moody. This gave the 49ers a three-point lead making it 22-19.

With the Chiefs having possession of the ball, they went all the way to the red zone and Mahomes threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr, making the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl 58 champions.

With this win, Patrick Mahomes carries the Chiefs’ legacy with three Super Bowl wins in the past five years.

“What a game, it could’ve gone either way,” said Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid via ESPN.
