German is the easiest language class

FVHS offers several different languages including Spanish, French, and German. Out of all these languages, German is the easiest to learn.

Spanish and French are similar and both share roots in Latin, However German and English are Indo-European languages in the Germanic family.

A lot of words in German are either identical or extremely similar in spelling to English. The major difference is pronunciation, but all languages use different pronunciation because of accents and grammar rules.

“German is simple because it has the same roots as English. I’m taking French, and it’s super difficult. Spanish isn’t quite as bad as French, but it’s still really tough,” said sophomore Blake Bennoit.

German numbers are also very easy. They aren’t similar to English in spelling or pronunciation, but the system is extremely simple. For pronouncing German numbers it is simply saying the digits in the reverse order.  For example, 35 would be said as five and thirty.

This is different from French, which has a different word for every number, and Spanish, which has a number system like German but it is more complex.

Spanish may be more popular to learn in the US, but German has so many reasons that make it easier to learn.
