This year’s Met Gala took place on May 4, 2026, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This year’s theme was ‘costume art’, where the dress code involved dressing as a living art piece. Every person who attended wore gorgeous and outstanding dresses, each valued at at least a million dollars. Additionally, many people around the world watch the Met Gala. This year, 196 million people tuned to watch the show.
In today’s world, there are many chaotic and tumultuous events that are occurring. Take the Iran War, for example. Countless individuals are suffering from hunger, poverty, and many have lost homes and family in this conflict. Not only this war, but global hunger isn’t solved yet. And in the middle of all of this conflict, the Met Gala happens, an event where world’s billionaires spend millions on a costume to roam around and take pictures for an evening while others around the world continue to suffer.

All of this isn’t to say that the Met Gala shouldn’t take place, but if people really want to come together to show off fashion trends the least they could do is raise awareness about the ongoing suffering in the world. Because of the huge number of viewers of the Met Gala, by bringing in a guest speaker, who can talk about the lives of suffering people, can ultimately go towards ending the suffering.
