Last Friday, April 30, the JV baseball team went undefeated in their 2026 season. The team faced Garner in the last round of conference play. Garner’s season record was 14-5 and FVHS record was 11-0-2 making them undefeated. In the last game, Garner struck first by scoring one run early to take the initial lead. However, the Bengals quickly responded by scoring six runs at the top of the sixth. Freshman Anthony Maceda contributed with a key single and later took the mound to close things out.
“What motivates me is the team, we have to stay together,” said Maceda. “There haven’t been that many tough games. We beat everyone so far, and I think we can keep that up going into other seasons.”
The Bengals in total tallied up nine hits. Although Garner collected five hits of their own, they struggled to bring runners home. In the end, FVHS secured the win and completed their undefeated season.
Sophomore Caleb Babbs, who catches for the Bengals, said, “Good team chemistry has led us to our team staying undefeated. Most of our guys have played together before, so everybody pretty much knows everybody. All of our games start with a good pregame meeting and a team prayer that motivates us.”
Although the JV baseball team’s 24-25 season ended with the team record 8-6-1, this year the team turned it around, proving a record can change with hard work, team connection and determination.
Although JV can sometimes be overlooked among other sports, they are building the baseball program from the ground up. This accomplishment reflects the amount of dedication and work put in throughout the season.
