Smart Lunch is a program where students get an hour lunch that is broken into 30 minutes of eating and 30 minutes of studying, getting help or tutoring from a teacher, or attending a meeting for school clubs or an organization. This program is aimed to help students who cannot stay after school to receive tutoring due to other responsibilities or who don’t have transportation. While it was originally designed for students who are struggling academically, it is beneficial for all students.
Students can be trusted with smart lunch because there will be adults watching them and able to help them if they need help with their studies.
If a student is assigned a smart day lunch, they’re required to attend at least once a week. One section is where students can and get help with any type of work and the other section is where teachers will invite specific students to receive small group instruction. It can allow them to study if they have no time after school, or if they can’t stay after school to get tutoring, or if they have practice after school and no time to study or do homework that is assigned to them. It gives them enough time to be able to have lunch or complete work for a club, as they might not have the time to do so outside of school because they didn’t have time during the week.
Smart lunch also gives the student an opportunity to boost their grades, and they are given an opportunity to do smart lunch every day. Administrators are hoping this will make more students attend smart lunch and assist their learning and relationships with all their classes. They are also allowing you to choose what lunch that they want to eat.
I think that this is a great opportunity for helping students if they’re struggling with homework or don’t understand classwork and are too shy to ask the teacher for help during class time and need one-on-one time.
