TikTok has been known for creating memes and trends over the years. Recently, a new trend known as ‘Group 7’ has surfaced. This term has been getting passed around between friends and even family members. Millions of people claim to be in the group, but what is it? How did it even start?
It all started when 26-year-old artist Sophia James posted a video on October 17 saying that if you see this video, you’re now in Group 7. The video blew up quickly. Originally the creator posted seven videos to see which one blew up more. Sitting at 8.7 million likes currently, it’s easy to conclude Group 7 is a very popular group. Many people went crazy and got excited that they were in Group 7. Lots of verified accounts like @Fenty Beauty and @Oreo commented on the post.
“Group 7 the baddest, we don’t make the rules,” said @Fenty Beauty. Other people on TikTok were also commenting positive and hype things.
Sophia James just wanted to experiment with the algorithm to see how it worked and if her videos would blow up, which they did. As more and more people began to see the video, it became more than a silly experiment.
You might have noticed people talking about Group 7. Maybe you’ve been asked if you are in Group 7. This video has sparked a lot of curiosity among TikTok users and has even brought them together in the community. Even if there’s a video that’s not following the Group 7 topic, people will comment, “Group 7 taking attendance.” Some people have even posted videos of them enjoying life and captioning it ‘how life feels when you’re in Group 7.’
What started off as a little experiment has now shifted greatly to a whole new level. It’s only a matter of time until this craze dies down and a new one begins.
