After a rough start to the season, our FVHS softball team earned its first victory of the year by working together to take down Green Hope High School.

Their first game of the season against Holly Springs went out with a loss, as the Bengals lost 11-2, and according to senior Chloe Webb, it wasn’t her proudest moment.

On Feb. 26, the team hosted a game against Green Hope High School, securing their first win of the season.

“It felt good considering how the first game went. It was good to get some reassurance,” said Webb

The team is a big believer in working together, according to junior Kylie McGrogan. The teammates all working together is what led to their victory during the game.

“The team was very motivated while playing, and they all hit when it came to batting,” said McGrogan.

Webb also thought the same when it came to the key moment leading up to their victory. She believes that everything clicked when they started to work together and everyone did their job like they were supposed to.

The Bengals were doing so well during the game. The crowd was cheering them on and hyping them up. Many fans expressed how exciting the whole game was because of how successful the players were during the entire game. All of our FVHS teams experience challenges when playing games and going against other teams, but the challenges are what help them learn how to be better and more confident when playing the sport they love and adore.

A challenge Webb brought up was when they would sometimes leave runners stranded on base because they couldn’t hit the ball. McGrogan brought up how the team started slow, and it looked like they knew what they were doing. She expressed that they didn’t have the best outcome in the beginning. But after that, they got their head in the game and started playing to their best ability.
