As the winter holidays arrive, many clubs are hosting parties and holding fundraisers. Students can attend many of these fun club events. Examples include FCCLA hosting Bengals Bells Bash where they will be wrapping gifts and ASL Club learning holiday-related signs.
Events like these help increase school spirit and let students have fun. This also brings new people into the club, which greatly benefits the smaller clubs here at school.
Senior Miorii Lanzas is the ITS Drama Club president. He said that along with regular Drama Club activities they will soon be hosting the Drama Club Holiday Party on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Lanzas said, “Instead of a regular Drama Club, we host food and drinks, have an ugly sweater contest and play games.”
Drama Club will celebrate their recent production at this party, and officers will perform “Alice in Wonderland in Five Minutes,” a chaotic tradition where they perform the show as quickly as possible.
Lanzas said, “We’re combining festive cheer with regular Drama Club activity.”
Drama Club hopes to have different foods and play games with a drama-related spin on them, such as Ships and Sailors. They will have competitions and a lot of candy.
Lanzas hopes to get more people interested in Drama Club with these fun activities.
Lanzas said, “You don’t have to be in Drama Club, and you don’t have to be in production. We encourage people to bring their friends.”
Senior Jordin Weckmann is club president of National Honors Society. NHS will be helping with other clubs’ fundraisers along with being a part of the Fuquay-Varina Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 8.
Weckmann said, “We have a Christmas parade that we’re going to attend and we are also going to be marching in the parade… We’re also going to be helping with FCCLA’s wrapping party.”
Weckmann believes that she can bring school spirit to the Christmas parade. These events bring the community together even though it is club run.
Weckmann explained, “We’re going to be collaborating with another club, which is Interact Club, and they’re going to do Christmas with Santa next Saturday.”
The breakfast with Santa will be Saturday, Dec. 14 from 8am-11am. They will be sending that money to an organization.
Anyone will be able to sign up for these events to volunteer.
Senior Natalie Rodrigues-Nazario of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) explained that they will be doing a series on Christmas and what it means to Christianity.
Rodrigues-Nazario said, “I think it does help school spirit because whenever we’re together, we want to do more for our school.”
Rodrigues-Nazario explained that the FCA wants to help the school. Most of their holiday celebrations will be in their meetings on Friday mornings.
Rodrigues-Nazario said, “Anyone can come. You don’t have to be an athlete to be part of FCA or even really a Christian. You can just come.”
These club events work to gather more people and increase school spirit around the holidays.
