The women’s tennis team has had some success this season, with the team winning five matches and losing six of them. The team beat Holly Springs and Willow Spring on Senior Night, which was a fitting win for the three seniors on the team.
Coach Marshall Wortham praised the team, saying that, “The team has grown closer together throughout the season and have become better as the season progresses. The seniors this year have stepped up as leaders this year and are the role models on the team.”
Several of the players have said the same this year.
Senior Ava Hughes said, “Everyone has become quite close this year. We have become quite good friends with each other, and everyone works together for the good of the team.”
Another player, sophomore Salem de Vente, had some of the same things to say as well.
“Everyone is supportive of each other. The team is playing very well this season,” said de Vente.
de Vente said that one of the reasons she joined the team was for the camaraderie of the team.
“I really joined to form friendships with people who share the same interests as me,” said de Vente.
Hughes had a similar reason for joining the team.
“I joined because I wanted to make new friends, and because my mother played tennis, my dad played tennis, and several of my siblings played tennis,” said Hughes.
It is clear that the team is having success this year because of the closeness of the team. They are starting to develop chemistry that will help the team to be successful in the long run.
