Fuquay Varina High School has many graduating seniors who are going into the armed forces. Currently, the graduates going into service include Eric Strickland, Cameron Pollard, and Antonio Cruse. It is an honor to have such incredible students at our school, and it takes dedication for these individuals to go into the armed forces.
Each student is going into different branches of the military. Eric Strickland is going to be entering the Navy, Cameron Pollard is joining the Air Force, and Antonio Cruse will be headed toward the National Guard.
“I plan on getting an education while serving, and I feel like for me, it is a better financial decision. I have family in the military, so I feel like for me it is an all-around good decision,” said Pollard.
Most students who are committed to going into the forces are planning to continue their education throughout training and deployment.
“My dad was in the Navy for nine and a half years and has been making six figures ever since. I am going to get my electrician hours in the Navy, and when I get out, I will be able to have a job as an electrician,” said Strickland.
Multiple staff members at FVHS are retired military, including our art teacher Justin DePue and Assistant Principal Ben Olin.
“I was in the army for 20 years. I think that being in the military can be a huge benefit especially if you are unsure of what you want to do with the rest of your life. Make sure that you do your research and don’t sign up for anything before you totally understand what you are actually going to be doing,” said DePue.
These students will leave almost immediately after graduation to start training and boot camp.
We would like to wish every senior luck with their plans and our future soldiers good luck at boot camp.
For any student considering going into the armed forces, or any student who has already signed up, please contact Dr. Emily Jesse so you can be honored at our commitment celebration on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the Fuquay Varina Police Department. This celebration will be honoring both students from Willow Spring High School and FVHS.
