Cafeteria makes eggciting changes to chicken sandwiches

FVHS has been rolling out chicken sandwiches every day, and many students are loving them. The lunch team is offering a choice between either a classic chicken sandwich or a spicy chicken sandwich accompanied by fries.

“The chicken sandwiches themselves are actually pretty good. I like them,” junior Owen Hoye stated.

While some enjoy the chicken sandwiches, others feel that it’s a bit repetitive.

“The chicken sandwiches are very mid. I’ve had them every single day. I’m starting to lose taste for them,” junior Hayden Douglas commented.

With students having mixed feelings about the chicken sandwiches, some theorize that there is a connection between the constant stream of chicken sandwiches and the disappearance of the school’s chickens which have now been replaced by rabbits.

“There’s got to be some connection, with only chicken sandwiches on Friday and now chicken sandwiches every day,” junior Tommy Lemmers stated.

This theory has been debunked by cafeteria worker Linda Winn.

“We had nothing to do with the chickens. You’d have to ask the horticulture teacher. We’re not allowed to serve raw meat,” Winn stated.

To the students, it’s unclear why there has been a constant stream of chicken sandwiches being served, but cafeteria worker Winn has the answer.

“We follow a dietary guideline made by a dietary aide in Raleigh so we don’t have any control over what we serve, but in December they’re changing things up. We’re going back to serving chicken sandwiches on Friday and we’re going to offer more entree items such as spaghetti with meatballs,” Winn stated.

The news of new lunch entrees has students excited to finally be able to expand their palate.

“I’m very excited and can’t wait to try the new food,” Lemmers stated.
